Management Team
Black Diamond Energy, Inc.'s management team is responsible for the implementation of the company's development strategy, with a focus on the investment needs of our partners. The management team has significant experience in energy development and the day-to-day operational requirements of a driller/operator, as well as a long and successful relationship with the financial community. Combined, the management team has more than seventy years in oil and gas development and partnership programs.

Eric D. Koval, President and Director
Mr. Koval is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. While attending Penn State, he was employed by Mobil Oil Company in Oklahoma, and Union Oil of California (UNOCAL), offshore Santa Barbara, California. His experience also includes working five years for Marathon Oil Company (USX-Marathon) in various production and reservoir engineering assignments in four different Basins throughout the United States. He has graduate credits from Ball State University, Indiana and Bowling Green University, Ohio, in their Masters of Business Degree programs. Mr. Koval joined Atlas Energy Group in 1993 as a production engineer specializing in acquisitions and dispositions. He subsequently moved into the Investor Relations Department in 1994 and was promoted to Director of Marketing in 1996. Mr. Koval is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, a Life Loyal Sigma Chi and lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association.

Joseph L. Breznai, Vice President Land Management and Director
Mr. Breznai has over 27 years experience in the oil and gas industry. With an extensive background in land administration, including lease and right-of-way acquisition and lease farm-outs, title curative, and preparing and negotiating joint ventures, as manager of Land Leasing for Lenape Resources in Batvia, New York. He also supervised the coordination of drilling programs, compliance with State and Federal drilling regulations and preparation of State and Federal environmental plans. Subsequently, Mr. Breznai served as landman for Atlas Energy Group, a Pittsburgh based oil and natural gas driller/operator for 19 years from 1979 to 1997. Mr. Breznai was promoted to Manager of Broker Dealer Relations for Atlas Resources, Inc. a subsidiary of the Atlas Energy Group, where he was responsible for overseeing the preparation, documentation, and the administration of drilling partnerships, including due diligence materials, and compliance with securities rules and regulations. While at Atlas, he also worked closely with the broker/dealer community, providing sales support and informational services on their various public and private offerings.

Laura L. Woodruff, Director of Broker/Dealer Relations, Corporate Secretary to Black Diamond Energy, Inc. and a Director.
Laura joined Black Diamond Energy, Inc. in August 2001 and brought with her approximately 15 years of Executive Assistant and Administrative experience. From June 2000 to August 2001 Mrs. Woodruff was an Executive Assistant to the Regional Vice President of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Region for the McDonald's Corporation. From 1999 to 2000 she served as Executive Secretary to the President of Anthem Securities, Inc. and Assistant to Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Charles T. Koval, and the Syndication Department of Atlas Resources, Inc./Atlas America, Inc. Prior to 1999, she traveled with her military husband and two children working for the State of Kansas as a Legal Secretary in the Child Enforcement Unit in Leavenworth, Kansas; as an Assistant in the Bodily Injury Department of State Farm Insurance Company in Olathe, Kansas and also as a Legal Secretary in their Claims Counsel offices in Columbia, Maryland. Laura began her career in 1986 as a Legal Secretary in the Law Offices of Ortenzio & Pritchard in Youngstown, Ohio. She is a graduate of the Bradford Business School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Charles Koval, Chairman of the Board, Senior Geologist and a Director.
Chuck joined Black Diamond Energy, Inc. on July 1, 2002.  Prior to joining Black Diamond Energy, he was the Founder and Chairman of Atlas Energy Group, Inc. and Atlas Resources, Inc. from 1970 to 2000 until he resigned on June 30, 2000.  Under Mr. Koval’s tenure Atlas raised in excess of 350 million dollars from private investors for natural gas development drilling programs.  Prior to the formation of Atlas Energy, he was associated with the firm, Federated Investors, Inc. and created his own firm in 1960, Allegheny Planned Income of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Mr. Koval has served on the boards and committees for the Pennsylvania Conservancy, the Presque Isle Foundation, Levy Lamb Scholarship Foundation, and has donated property and cash in excess of $2,000,000 to various scholarship and foundations for Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Koval serves as a director of Imperial Harbors since 1980.  Chuck served as a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. and the Pennsylvania National Guard, in which he attained the rank of Captain.  Mr. Koval has taken numerous continuing education courses of open hole logging, geologic evaluation of exploratory plays, seismic interpretations and financial risk/rewards courses.  Mr. Koval received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography from Pennsylvania State University in 1955.
